Ever wondered what it’s like to pedal a bicycle at 184 miles per hour? Probably not. It’s an eccentric and wild proposition — not to mention dangerous. But it’s precisely what Denise Mueller-Korenek, a former elite junior cyclist and 45-year-old mother of three, attempted last September on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah.

Here, take an up-close and rollicking ride with Mueller-Korenek, her pace car driver, Shea Holbrook, and the rest of their team as they chase an exhilarating world record on the barren surface of America’s cathedral of speed.
